My mumma always told me
“love with all your heart”
What she failed to mention
was how to make a new start
when they turn the ugly lights on
and they tell you that the party’s got to stop.
And you know the night is over
but the night still feels so young.
Now I’m standing on a beautiful island
and i’m holding in my hand a diamond
and it’s glistening in the sun
My father always told me
“I love you with all my heart”
What he didn’t mention
was how to make a new start
as a child of just 11
talking to his Dad in heaven with tears in his eyes.
And it felt like my life was over
but here I am so much older and yet I feel
so young.
Now he’s on a beautiful island
and he’s holding in his hand a diamond
and it’s glistening in the sun
My best friend always told me
“Trust yourself with all your heart.
You can be anything you want
but you gotta make a new start”
And his words rejuvenate me
cause he always has a way of making me strong.
Everybody needs a friend
who will love them until the end
and I thank the Lord I got at least one.
